Tyvek Suits
This disposable, lightweight suit provides a layer that is impermeable to water and most chemicals and biological agents. Microscopic particles as small as 0.5 microns cannot pass through these suits and the suit’s barrier is not easily scratched or worn away.
Tyvek suits are worn with booties, gloves, and often with a PAPR. These pieces are often taped up, at the ankle and wrist, so that there are no gaps that allow contaminants to enter.
There are two levels of protection, Level A and Level B suits. Level A suits are total containment suits, giving protection from all forms of chemicals: solids, liquids, and gasses/vapors.
Level B suits are not airtight. These suits provide protection against solids and liquids (splashing), but not vapors or gasses. Tyvek suits are an example of a Level B suit.
