The Shelf Life Extension Program (SLEP) is an essential part of the CHEMPACK program. The SLEP provides a means for rotating the CHEMPACK assets to ensure that they do not expire.
Once the CHEMPACK containers are opened, they are ineligible for SLEP. CHEMPACK designees should only break the container seal and use CHEMPACK assets under the following conditions:
When it is determined that a nerve agent release has occurred
When the release is so large that the medical security of the community is at risk
When the release has put multiple lives at risk.
When the casualties threaten to overwhelm local medical supplies.
